BEIRUT: Lebanese flour mills and bakeries agreed to keep the price of a ton of flour delivered to bakeries at LL590,000 until the end of the current month.
The statement by both sides stressed they were waiting for the support of Economy Ministry, which will issue a tender to buy 40 tons of wheat.
The president of Dora Flour Mills and chairmen of the Agrifood Traders Association, Arslan Sinno, noted that many flour mills had to increase their prices in the past in order to survive.
Sinno said that the ministry owed them $12 million for wheat purchased last year and this was one of the reasons for increasing the prices.
He added that Lebanese banks refused to lend mills more money to continue their operations. Sinno noted that the consumption of flour had increased due to the flow of Syrian refugees to Lebanon.
