Drug Prevention Round-table
17. May 2012

(News & Events)

An awareness roundtable on drugs was held at BASSMA's head office in Badaro, on Thursday, May 17, in a joint initiative with Oum El Nour association. Attending were Mr. Naji Mansour from Oum El Nour, BASSMA's president Ms.Sandra Klat Abdelnour, the BASSMA team and the mothers of BASSMA's families.

The objective of this prevention session is to educate the mothers on the multiple causes of drug use. It is the first step in a long series of roundtables targeting first the parents, and then their children, especially teenagers.

The session started with the lecturer showing a short movie with a testimonial from a former drug user. Afterwards, Mr. Naji Mansour explained how to recognize the signs on people using drugs and how to deal with people using drugs. He also highlighted the importance of understanding that poverty is not a determinant factor that leads to drugs.

The mothers found the meeting very fruitful and they participated eagerly, raising many important points and questions.
